This is a question for hair experts about highlights?

I have dark blonde/light brown hair naturally but I've always highlighted it.....Recently though, I let the highlights grow out too much and I just wanted my hair to be all one color(the color of my roots), so I went to a salon and the woman dyed it all one color(a darker color that matched my roots.....It's been 2 weeks now and the color has completely washed out!! Is this normal? I thought if you dyed your hair darker it would get rid of all of the highlights.....This is a question for hair experts about highlights?
when you dye your hair a darker shade it doesnt get rid of the highlights it just covers them. Sometimes the hair dye doesnt take and ends up washing out quickly, in an event like this you should go back and see your stylist... who should re-dye it at no charge (if they are professional about it)- Other times you hair will lighten up a few weeks after dying, but shouldnt wash out completely. Make sure your using a good moisturizing shampoo and color shield conditioner.
