Is it true that highlights can melt your hair?

I have done highlights with the cap before, so don't tell me to get them done by a pro because I am a poor college student and I can't afford it. I was just wondering however, is it true that your hair can melt and break off from being overprocessed? How do I prevent this?Is it true that highlights can melt your hair?
It is true, seen it happen too many times.

Heres a few ways to prevent it.

1-never use the junk they have at the store, always go to a beauty supply house first

2- never overlap the color. Yes i know it may feel really good to pull it through to the ends (sarcasm), but if your ends are white, they don't need any more chemicals. It doesn't make you think it will look good, but believe me at the end it will.

3- never leave the bleach on untill your hair is white, let it be pale yellow (just past the orange stage) and then wash it will a purple toning shampoo (also picked up at your beauty supply house)

4-never comb your hair with the color in it.

You should be in good shape with these rules. Is it true that highlights can melt your hair?
It can fry... yes...
Your hair won't ever melt unless its being burned above a flame, even then I dont think it will necessarily melt. It, however CAN break off from overprocessing. To prevent it DONT OVERPROCESS.
They wont melt, but will fall off..Reason..Overprocessing..Overprocesi鈥?is caused from leaving the bleach on too long..When the hair has gone beyond white in the bleaching stage, then you have a problem..Never, Never, take the color past a pale yellow stage in bleaching...When Procesing with bleach, always keep checking to see what stage your at..All depends on what your looking for in highlights..Prevention, is not letting it go to this stage...white...
its not true that it will melt but dont put color in ur hair if its permed then ur hair will fall out. but if u press ur hair then it will be alright. and dont put to much heat in ur hair. especially when its dirty cause it will also break off and fall out. so wat i would do is wash ur hair dont perm it and then put color in ur hair
first ev all your hair won't melt. second ev all save up some money and get it done by the pro's . i am just like you a poor college student. i save my money it not that hard
Melt? No.... but being overprocessed can cause hair to die, fall out, thin, get split ends, etc.... but to be honest even if it is done at a salon this can still happen! Use a shampoo and CONDITIONER that is made for dyed hair to help prevent this as much as possible.
